I know that one day, someone may be in your office & possibly glance at this letter. For that reason, I need to give a brief history. Probably one that most people would not believe.
I arrived at your office with my eight-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog, Paddington, about two months ago. I came to you only after researching recommended veterinarians on the internet. Your office was my third & most likely last desperate attempt to save my dog's life.
Paddington recently began having seizures. She had already been to a neurologist for an MRI of her brain & multiple other tests that were all negative. No one was able to diagnose her & she was deteriorating rapidly. Paddington could not even leave the house without collapsing. Dr. Selmer, you had never met her before. And yet in this grave condition, you did not turn Paddington away. You agreed to wait one day for her blood work that had been done at the prior vet's office.
While waiting that one day, which happened to be a Sunday, Paddington collapsed & her seizures came in clusters. She could not stand up or eat. Dr. Selmer you called, texted & emailed in support of a dog you had just met the morning before. Somehow, Paddington made it through the day & we were able to receive her blood work.
The prior veterinarian stated that her blood values were all normal. But when I received the blood work, I noticed that during her seizure her sugar level was extremely low. Dr. selmer you called me back immediately, listened to my concerns & with your knowledge brought forth a tenative diagnosis...Addisons disease. And an appropriate treatment.
Dr. Selmer, I do not know what type of intervention this is called (maybe it really is divine). But going to you for that last, desperate attempt has saved Paddington's life. When I look at her running around in the yard, I cannot believe where we were only a few weeks ago & where we are today. It makes me cry every time.
Thank you with all our heart. Paddington & Jennifer
Dear Dr. Selmer,
How do I say thank you for giving life back to me. I was at another animal hospital, for the second time, with chronic constipation, dying … my parents (owners) beside themselves with worry and grief. They did not know what else to do to save me, did not know who to turn to for help – and then they found you!
When they brought me to you, you looked at all of me, not just the “presenting symptoms.” You poked and prodded me, you took blood, and you came up with a plan. The blood tests showed I had, in addition to my constipation, anemia and diabetes. You had vitamins made and started me on a high fiber diet. Once you regulated my blood, you did not just say, “good enough” – but kept on digging. Your tireless endurance and search for answers resulted in discovering I also had an underactive thyroid condition – very rare for us felines!!
Now I get insulin, cysapride, fiber, home-made food, and a thyroid pill each day. But what I really have gotten from you is my life back. Instead of sleeping 20 hours a day, being grumpy because I feel so crumby and swatting at the kittens to get away from me – I romp, play, chase, jump on top of the armoire, and forget I am soon to be a seven year old cat, not a 7 month old kitten.
Thanks, Dr. Selmer!
Love,

Dear Dr. Selmer,
I just would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all that you have done for both Noelle and myself.
Noelle is the most important thing to me in the world, and from the day we walked into your door, you have treated her with the same love, kindness and concern that I do. That was and is very important to me.
Ever since that day, Noelle has never been better. No matter what crazy thing we have come in with, you were quick to diagnose and cure. You have also accommodated her “special requests” lol…… Then because of what you called a hunch, you were able to catch her Cushing’s Disease early on before it took a bad turn and possibly threatened her life. Now instead of harsh medications, she is able to take alternative medications and vitamins and she has never looked, acted or felt better.
You have taught me everything I need to know to give my dog a LONG, happy and healthy life with me. You have been patient, and kind, and what you have taught me has helped others I know as well as Noelle. I feel responsible and educated because of all that you have done.
You are the best thing that has ever happened to her! We are so thankful for you!

My husband and I got 2 Morkiepoo puppies on a whim! A dear friend of ours that lives in Seaford brings her dog to Dr. Selmer so I knew that is who we would use. (not to mention he is literally around the corner from us!)
From the 1st time I called there to make an appointment I knew we made the right choice. Everyone from the girls that answer the phones to the nurses who assit Dr. Selmer are nothing less than professional, caring and most of all loving to our "babies" Ricky & Lucy.
When I call with a question, Dr. Selmer calls back in a flash. When I am in the office he answers all of our questions.
We had both our dogs "fixed" and they both came home like they spent the day at the spa! They were back to their playful selves within 24 hours.
Our dogs are happy & healthy, we give them supplements that Dr. Selmer suggested and their coats are as smooth as silk!
We are so happy to have Advanced Animal Care to bring our Puppies to!!
Fondly

Thanks to Dr. Selmer, my Jack Russell (Courtney) is alive today and full of energy at 11 years old!
She was not even 6 months old when she ingested parts of a fireplace throw rug causing her intestines to twist inside like a string of pearls. Dr. Selmer said she would not last if she did have immediate surgery.
My wife and I were so attached to this little energy ball that we cried when we had to let her go into the operating room. Dr. Selmer's skills saved our dog. He provided the care one would imagine getting in a people hospital ICU.Through out the years Dr. Selmer has come to our dog's aid and he continues to provide the care and professionalism one expects for a loved member of the family.
If Courtney could type, she would also say THANK YOU!

Well, I have really one thing to say about Dr. Selmer - he's amazing! I have a beautiful 11 year old Shar Pei Bailei who has been to an endless amount of vets with different diagnosis every time I go. They would prescribe meds that never helped and offered ways to help her that never worked. She has a huge tumor like lump on her back leg and her other leg is swollen with a liquid coming out. She has had numerous UTI's, skin rashes, ear infections...it's not been easy for her. She was diagnosed with cancer, Shar Pei Fever and was basically told that she was a Shar Pei and they had problems. I couldn't accept that and saw an ad for Dr. Selmer. I brought Bailei in and he was the first vet to actually really care about Bailei. He ran a series of tests and it turns out she had a ton of allergies. The food I was feeding her (including her treats) she was allergic to and she was lying on her blanket which was cotton (she is also allergic to cotton). We recently ran a test to see if she has Cushing's Disease (the signs are pointing in that direction) so I am waiting for the results. But no one even mentioned this to me. I never really felt she had cancer or Shar Pei Fever and this is the first time I am 100% secure that I will get a correct diagnosis. I had so many questions for Dr. Selmer and he is always there to answer them. I am never left hanging as I was with other vets. Finding Dr. Selmer was the best move I have ever made for the welfare of my wonderful Best Friend! I'm not sure what the outcome will be...but I know for sure that whatever it is I have Dr. Selmer at my side the whole way! I cannot thank him enough for that! Also, I must mention that his team is so caring, considerate, friendly and compassionate. It's a pleasure to go into the office to see them all! They always make you feel welcome!!! I will never take my dog anywhere else ever again! I have found my forever vet!
Warm regards,

"Hi Dr. Selmer,
Latest report: Buffett seems to be doing better. The night after I met with you guys (I hadn't started the medicine yet) I got a video of him shaking/panting during a soft rain/thunder. He's been on the medicine a couple of weeks now and we've had a couple of thunderstorms since. He still gets anxious, but it's better.
He hasn't tried to jump out the window nor chewed out our windowsills. Amazing. His tail still goes between his legs but he's not panting as hard as usual. He's still scared but it's not as dramatic.
Today we were at the beach and heard two big rolls of thunder. I biked home as fast as I could because a month ago when the same instance happened of slight thunder, he jumped out the slightly open window, jumped our 5.5 fence and was injured. I saw him running down the street as I was heading home (separate incident from the 4th of July injuries when he got his head stuck in that fence and ripped out his teeth, then jumped the fence). When I went inside (a month ago), he had chewed out the wood around two windowsills, chewed out our screen door and the casings around it upstairs, and there was blood all around the house on the floor. Today, I got home figuring I'd find the same situation, and while he came to the door to greet me panting, nothing was destroyed in the house."

"Just wanted to update everyone....about a month ago Bella had a cornea ulcer, interdigital cysts, bald spots, redness on her face and skin folds......after going under Dr. Selmer's care and having her whole diet transformed and adding new additional nutritional supplement support she is now looking and feeling amazing! Her hair has almost all come back....she plays and acts like a big puppy. I can not believe the difference. Her eye is all better and didn't require surgery like the 3 times before. Dr. Selmer and staff were so wonderful to us. It gives us such peace of mind knowing she is getting the proper care by someone who shares a love for the breed. Thanks Dr. Selmer for all your help!
Happy and safe 4th to everyone!"
